Temporary Closure of the Ichetucknee River
Important Notice: Temporary Closure of Ichetucknee River
If you’re planning a trip to the beautiful Ichetucknee Springs State Park in the coming weeks, we have an important update to share. Beginning January 13th, access to the Ichetucknee River from the park will be temporarily closed for at least two weeks. This closure is necessary to remove downed trees and debris left behind by recent back-to-back hurricanes.
Why the Closure Is Necessary
The Ichetucknee River is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and serene natural beauty, making it a favorite destination for kayaking, tubing, and wildlife observation. Unfortunately, the impact of the hurricanes has left significant debris in the river, creating potential hazards for visitors and the surrounding ecosystem. Removing these downed trees is essential to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone who visits.
What This Means for Visitors
During this period, all access points to the river from Ichetucknee Springs State Park will be closed. This includes tubing, paddling, and other water-based activities from the park. However, the park itself will remain open, allowing visitors to enjoy its other attractions, such as swimming in the Head Spring or Blue Hole Spring, hiking trails, picnic areas, and wildlife observation opportunities.
Expected Timeline
The park authorities anticipate the cleanup efforts to take approximately two weeks, but this timeline is subject to change based on weather conditions and the scope of the work. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available, so keep an eye on the official Ichetucknee Springs State Park website or social media channels for the latest news.
