Fish Bowl at Homosassa Springs Closed; Repairs to Begin After Manatee Season

The Fish Bowl at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park is currently closed to the public, with repairs set to begin once manatee season ends. Park officials announced that the popular underwater observatory, which provides visitors with a unique view of marine life and manatees beneath the water’s surface, requires structural maintenance to improve safety and visibility.

"The Fish Bowl has experienced wear and tear over the years, and it’s time to address these issues to keep it safe and enjoyable for visitors," a park spokesperson said. "We’ve chosen to wait until manatee season ends to avoid disturbing the manatees while they’re still in the springs."

Repairs are expected to start as soon as the manatees naturally migrate out of the area with the warmer weather, which typically happens in late spring. The work will focus on reinforcing the structure and improving the clarity of the viewing windows.

The repair process is estimated to take about six to eight weeks. While the Fish Bowl will remain closed during this time, other parts of the park — including the manatee rehabilitation center, walking trails, and wildlife viewing platforms — will remain open to visitors.

Park officials anticipate reopening the Fish Bowl by early summer and encourage visitors to check the park’s website for updates on the progress and reopening date.
